The Last Word
It’s not that I don't care.
I do. You are my good friend.
Best friend, even.
Not that you ever said so.
Nor responded when I did.
Rarely, anyway, if at all.
But I cared.
I did.
You're the one who's to blame here.
These irreconcilable differences.
You caused them.
It's you, not me.
I tried, we failed.
I was always there.
You were off on the town.
Self-absorbed.
But this final episode,
that was the straw
that broke my back.
That's why we're finished. History.
A very bad memory.
That's why I'm here, this evening.
That's why, as you lie before me,
peacefully resting, fast asleep,
I will finally have the last word.
Just before I end your world.
Then mine.
I loved you that much.
Sweet dreams.
You piece of shit.
