RETURN TO THE DARK HERE
The Trade
As we left the theatre,
An old man in torn, filthy clothes
called over to me.
With steaming breath reeking of cheap booze,
he hissed, "Son,
you killed me for eight lines of poetry and a fat joint."
I laughed, handed him a dollar, and replied,
"That's all you were worth, Dad."
